Our ocean-going sea vessels run fishery of white fish, pelagic fish, and prawns. The fleet has all together an operational area which covers a large part of the Atlantic Sea, the North Sea, The Norwegian Sea, and the Barents Sea. The fish caught by our vessels end up as nutritious meals worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
White fish is a common name for fish with white meat. Several fish species have white meat, so when we use the term of “white fish”, this includes as a main principle fish that lives close to the bottom: saithe, haddock, halibut and – not least- the world famous Northeast Artic cod.<\/p>\n
We fish our white fish mainly in the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea, and the Barents Sea. We also fish, periodically, some white fish species around Greenland.<\/p>\n
White fish is caught by trawling. The fish that lives close to the bottom is caught by bottom trawl, and the white fish standing higher by floating trawl.<\/p>\n
Our white fish trawler “Granit” is a factory trawler with onboard production of fillet, fish meal and fish oil. All of the catches of the “Granit” are processed in the factory onboard. The part of the fish that is not frozen, is used for fish meal and oil. The products from Granit has a market worldwide,\u00a0 but the frozen -at -sea fillet goes mainly to Fish & Chips restaurants in England. Onboard production means that the fish is processed completely at sea. It takes only minutes from the moment the fish is taken onboard, until the completed fillet is frozen. This gives the fillet a truly unique quality, and makes the fillet from Granit, produced onboard, wanted even in demanding markets.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t
Pelagic fish is fish that mainly lives\u00a0 in the open waters. Herring, mackerel, blue whiting, capelin and sprat are excamples of this.<\/span><\/p>\nThe pelagic species are fat and contains a lot of omega- 3, which helps the brain to develop and function normally. The health benefits of eating fat fish as herring and mackerel are well scientifically proven. The fish is, among others, great for the brain and sight, and might reduce the risk of stroke and Alzheimer.<\/p>\nMost of the pelagic fish is used for food, but also as raw materials for the animal feed industries.<\/p>\nPelagic fish is caught by pelagic trawl or purse seine net. Pelagic vessels can usually use both. Most of the pelagic fish is delivered fresh for industrial processing ashore. The fish is taken onboard in holds with refrigerated sea water and is cooled down to -1,5 degrees celsius. The catch is then delivered for further processing to land facilities, mainly in Norway. Pelagic fish has markets in many parts of the world, and often ends up at a dining table in Asia, Africa, America as well as in Europe.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\n \n\n \n <\/rect>\n <\/rect>\n <\/svg>\n\n <\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tPrawns<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\tDeep water prawns<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\tOur vessels catch the prawns mainly in the Barents Sea and around Svalbard, by East- Greenland and Flemish Cap. The prawn population in these waters is what we call Deep water Prawns, or Pandulus Borealis. It is also known as Northern Prawn.<\/p>\nThe Deep water Prawn can grow up to be 16 centimetres long and has a four centimeters fontal horn. It spawns as a male at the length of 9-10 centimetres, and later switches to female and spawns then at 12-16 centimetres.<\/p>\nThey are low on calories and contain a lot of protein. The Deep water Prawns are therefore regarded as healthy food.<\/p>\nThe prawns are caught with bottom trawl and are produced onboard. We make both boiled prawns for human consumption and raw prawns for industrial purposes. The largest prawns can also be sea frozen raw for human consumption. Then, often as sushi in Japan. The Deep water Prawns are sold worldwide. Both Scandinavia, United Kingdom, the rest of Europe, Asia and America are markets for the boiled shell on prawn. The ones that are produces for industrial purposes, are delivered to factories in Norway.
